We're thrilled to congratulate our Head Brewer, Jorge, on receiving the prestigious Sir Geoff Palmer Scholarship for Brewing from the Michael James Jackson Foundation (MJF)!
Despite the increasing diversity of the American population, BIPOC representation within the brewing and distilling sectors remains disproportionately low. The MJF is a renowned organization that supports Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in brewing and distilling by funding technical education scholarships that enable greater access to the highest levels of professional training, creating pathways to more diverse and inclusive industry workforce and leadership. Thanks to the technical education scholarships offered by The MJF, many recipients have been able to step into larger positions in their fields like head brewers, master distillers, board members of industry non-profits, and more.Â
Jorge was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Master Brewers Program at UC Davis next year—a unique, 20-month program that provides an in-depth understanding of brewing science and brewery engineering. He has been leading our brew team and crafting recipes for the past year, and we couldn't be prouder of all he's accomplished in such a short time. We can’t wait to see how this opportunity enhances his skills and makes for even better beer here at Brix City!
